My M-461 is equipped with the best of the Aro engine choices available: the Brasov Diesel.

3.1 liter 4-cylinder, dual-head, and extremely rugged and reliable.

70 hp @ 3200 rpm

136 lb/ft torque @ 1600 rpm

3,000 lbs towing capasity.

about 22 mpg

This engine runs like it's brand new (which, with less than 10,000 miles on it, it is!). It takes about 15 seconds to heat the glow plug on a warm day, and about 25-30 seconds when it's cold. Once it's been started, it restarts throughout the day with just the push of a button.

As the numbers suggest, this is not a high-performance engine for a 3,373 lb vehicle. Acceleration is...slow and deliberate. Top speed is about 60mph. However, the torque peaks early and provides so much power that it feels like this machine could pull down a house. It is designed for off-road use, where it is capable of extricating itself from alarming amounts of mud.

Of course, the engine bay is large enough to fit just about any U.S. turbo-diesel or V-8 gas engine.
